Each season, ghd Professional launches its Trend Reveal; a distilled edit of looks designed to inspire and educate salons and their clients. Rather than providing hairdressers with a carbon copy of catwalk styles to replicate, the Trend Reveal takes trending ideas and interprets them as salon-ready styling services. With diverse interpretations of bigger ideas, there is something for every client - and by providing styling-focussed looks, it is also a big business booster for salons.
This summer, ghd has been inspired by the uplifting, unifying power of music and the importance of finding your tribe, whether that is a leather-clad gang of rock chicks or sequin-loving soul sisters. Music is, more than ever, about keeping us connected, building bonds, and finding the scene that fits your vibe. Thanks to the global nature of streaming services, diverse audiences are now brought together with a shared bond, united by music.
It is nothing new for music to inspire fashion, but in recent seasons the uber-creative, melting pot influence of festival style has really made its mark. From rave-worthy neon at Christopher Kane and Valentino and maximalist clashing hues and oversized prints at Marc Jacobs and Richard Quinn, to folksy Broderie Anglaise at Erdem and Kate Spade and the ultimate Kate Moss at Glasto classic – the waistcoat – at Saint Laurent, Celine, Hermes and more.
This season, ghd has created the Summer Punch collection of four summer blow-dry looks; inspired by the freedom, creativity, and positive power of music.
“The inspiration came straight out of fashion week,” says Amy Sontae, ghd’s Global Creative Education Manager. Working alongside Janine Jennings, ghd’s Head of Education for the UK, the vision and shoot really came to life.
We wanted to showcase the season’s hottest trends, which are perfect for summer styling. In terms of hair inspirations, House of Holland, Attico and Philosophy sent frothy, lived in movement down the catwalk, with folded-back sides offering fresh detailing to familiar textures. Vintage hair combs are set to be the big break-out accessories trend for summer 2020 and the more the merrier. Layer them in different colours to be ahead of the fashion pack.
So, what does all this look like in terms of hair? As always for ghd, it is about beautiful, luxurious finishes - now with a focus on texture in all its forms, accessory detailing and aspirational touches that celebrate the craft of hairdressing.
- The Side Cinch is a full-bodied Afro look, with stretched-out curls and detailing added using the ghd helios comb nozzle (available this summer) to create volume and shape. Colourful combs add extra interest.
- Rock Folds combines sleek sides with a textured top section, replicating a mohawk silhouette with a softer, less structured feel.
- Full-bodied waves created with a blow-dry are at the heart of the Festival Folds look, which replicates the shape of tonged curls through the art of blow-drying for a tousled, Cali-cool feel.
- Providing an ultra-cool update, the Comb Folds look is all about layering; layering waves crafted with the Platinum+ for rocking texture and laying hair combs for a stacked finish.
