SUCCESS AT J O ACADEMY TRAINEE AWARDS EVENING
Over 70 students from salons and schools throughout Norfolk and Suffolk have participated in the J O Academy Trainee Awards, with their results being staged in a spectacular evening show to a capacity audience bringing down every seat in the house! The success of this annual competition and awards is rapidly making the event the biggest and most spectacular of its kind in the East Anglian region.
After recent expansion the J O Academy launched this ambitious mix of fashion entertainment and competition at Taverham High School, Norwich.
The event judges were Christopher Spry of Christopher Spry, Norwich, Paul Linnett of Paul Henri, Ipswich, Joanne Hobbs of City College Norwich, Adrian Rowe of Adrian Rowe, Norwich, Nina Percival and Hayley Mansfield of Finnhair, Reading, Sue Barker of Barkers Hairdressing Suppliers and Terri Boldero and Caroline Filby of Boldero and Filby, Kings Lynn unanimously agreed that the standard of work was exemplary.
Incorporated into the evening's entertainment and punctuating each competition result were four stunning and varied catwalk presentations by guest stylists and a dance team. The show was opened by Maddie, who is the Suffolk's Got Talent winner by singing 'Good Morning Baltimore' from the show 'Hairspray'. The Level 3 students were joined by former students of the Academy to produce a selection of models representing the different styles of 'Around the World'. Callum Standen, a former student of the Academy produced a model to show how far his artistic skills have come. The Saxtead Spinners presented to dance routines. The trio were made up of Eilish (choreographer), Maddie and Bess. They put on an excellent show considering they were called in at short notice.
The prizes were donated by Barkers Hairdressing Supplier, Matrix and Production Services Entertainment Ltd. John Lewis also donated a goody bag for all the entrants.
The compère for the evening was Rob Lamarr whose wit and repartee kept the whole thing moving along.
J O Academy Directors Karen Pymer and Susie Ball were thrilled with events saying,
"The support and contribution from all the salons and schools involved goes from strength to strength every year and we are both privileged to have the opportunity to recognise everyone's effort.
